Helping young people make
sound choices.
Pelican Live Sound.
A live sound engineering course for young people.

Pelican Live Sound is a new intervention initiative for 13-18-year-olds that are losing their way.
Children that live in poverty; come from dysfunctional families; Pupil Referral Units; SEND (special educational needs); children with mental health issues; gangs, crime; or that feel they are marginalised from mainstream education.
Pelican is a 12-week course (2 hours a week) in live music sound engineering. The course content is 50% practical and 50% theory and is accessible to most ability groups.
The course aims to:
• Build confidence with a hands-on approach and a can-do attitude.
• If children feel isolated from mainstream education and harbour a belief that they have limited life choices, it can manifest itself into powerlessness. By demonstrating that education comes in many guises, can take different paths and is accessible - a child’s sense of empowerment can then raise their aspirations.
• Having a passion for music and creativity also gives a sense of purpose in life, to fulfil your dreams takes inner strength and determination.
• Confidence, empowerment, purpose, aspirations, strength and determination are the building blocks for resilience.

The course offers 8 student places to maximise tutor : student time and to ensure that the practical element is delivered effectively.
Pelican Live Sound provides a full PA rig and can either be taught on your site or at an appropriate venue.
Because the course has been designed with a focus on vulnerable young people, students are referred onto the course by the education or local authority with concern or responsibility for their welfare.
Pelican is based in Westbourne Park London, UK. Please contact Jane Hughes for further information.
